PES Kindergarten Registration Set

April 16-20 has been set for registration for children who will attend Prescott Elementary School kindergarten for the 2001-2002 school term. A parent may register the child anytime between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on these days at the school office.

The law of 1999 requires that any child who will be five years old on or before September 15 must attend kindergarten unless the parent or guardian files a signed kindergarten waiver form with the local school district administration office.

Parents should take their child's birth certificate, social security number and a record of immunization.

All kindergarten students must also have completed a comprehensive and developmental pre-school examination (health). This physical examination may be given at the local Nevada County Health Unit or you may have this done with your family physician. The health unit will be giving physicals Wednesday, April 18, and one-half day on Monday, April 23. The elementary office can schedule an appointment with the Nevada County Health Unit at the time of registration.

The school will allow a child to register without these official documents, but before he is admitted to a kindergarten classroom, a copy of these documents must be on file in the school office.

Brief tests for class placement will be given to all kindergarten students the week before school opens. A couple of weeks before test time parents will receive notification in the mail as to the date and time to take your child to school for this brief test.

Parents are urged to get all the above documents in order now so that their children will be eligible to attend kindergarten when school begins.
