Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. To any woman who would like to get together with another woman to pray may get in touch with the local area contact person of Moms in Touch, Beth Ward, at 870-887-6376. For the past three years the local schools have been covered in prayer by a group of moms who meet on Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church to pray for one hour. Registration for kindergarten will be held at Emmet Elementary School April 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information call 887-2319. The Union Cemetery Association will meet in the fellowship hall of Union Baptist Church for the annual meeting Saturday, April 7, at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in bidding on upkeep of cemetery can submit bids at this meeting or mail to Janice Porter, Rt. 3 Box 165, Rosston, AR 71857. The April coffee will be hosted by the Nevada County Library board and Friends of the Library. It will be held Thursday, April 5, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at library. Everyone is invited to help celebrate National Library Week. The seventh annual Easter egg hunt will be held Saturday, April 14, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The Southwest Arkansas Workforce Investment board will meet on Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at UACCH in Hope. Nubbin Hill Cemetery at Missionary Grove Baptist Church will have a clean-up Wednesday (today), April 4, at 5:30 p.m. All the old faded arrangements will be taken up and disposed of. If you have an interest in this cemetery, you are asked to go help. Shelby and Salina Loe of Emmet are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Makenzie Brooke, who was born Monday, March 26, 2001. Makenzie weighed six pounds and 11 ounces and she was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Paul and Anita Foster of Emmet, Carla and Thomas B. Quarterman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alexis Davis of Emmet. Young ladies interested in how to artfully apply makeup for the prom need to attend a cosmetics seminar given by Mary Kay consultant Veronica Mauldin Thursday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the Nevada County Library. The Hempstead County Democratic Central Committee will host a reception and question-answer session with Attorney General Mark Pryor Thursday, April 5, beginning from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Hempstead County Courthouse.
