SHACKELFORD FUNERAL HOME of PRESCOTT

Maurice McLelland, 87, of Prescott departed this life Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Hillcrest Care and Rehab in Prescott.

Mr. McLelland was born July 31, 1913, in Nevada County to Willis J. and Lecta McNeely McLelland. He was a jeweler and watchmaker serving Prescott and southwest Arkansas for 62 years. He was a member and deacon of Central Baptist Church in Prescott since 1937, where he served as song director, teacher and other places in the church for many years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge of Prescott. He was awarded the 1998 Treasure of Gold plaque by the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce. He received U.S. Navy training in San Diego in 1945. He served in the foresters CC Camps in Utah when Franklin Roosevelt was President. He was preceded in death by one son, a brother and his parents.

Cherishing his memory are his wife for over 62 years, Dorothy McLelland; his son, Jerald McLelland of Prescott; his granddaughter and her husband, Charlene and Grant Clark of Hope; a brother, Harold McLelland of Little Rock; seven sisters, Yvonne Thompson of Baton Rouge, La., Opal Barber of Greensboro, N.C., Betsy Bliss of Idyllwild, Calif., Joyce Martin of California, and Virginia Barksdale, Kathryn Church and Polly Grifford of Huntsville, Ala.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 29, at Central Baptist Church in Prescott. Burial was in DeAnn Cemetery in Prescott under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott.
