Man Arrested By Sheriff's OfficeBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune A traffic stop resulted in a 30-year-old Nevada County resident being arrested on three felony charges. According to court records, Nevada County Sheriff deputy Danny Martin stopped a vehicle for having defective equipment and an expired license plate. The driver, Jeffrey Moore, was frisked. During the search, Martin developed probable cause, the records state, and made a more thorough search. He found a metal pipe used to store and smoke marijuana, a small amount of marijuana and five heat-sealed plastic bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine. In all, the five bags weighed three grams. Moore was taken to the Nevada County jail, where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. The methamphetamine charge is a class Y felony, punishable by 10-40 years or life in prison and a fine up to $25,000. In this instance, the paraphernalia charge is a class C felony, with a sentence of 3-10 years and a fine up to $10,000. The marijuana charge is a class D felony, with a sentence of up to six years in jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000. Moore has made his first appearance in court, where the bail was set at $50,000.
