County, State Residents Seeing Disaster FundsBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune Figures on the cost of the December ice storms are still coming in. According to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM), individuals who suffered losses due to the storm have been paid more than $19.6 million. These funds have been paid with U.S. Small Business Administration loans. Individual assistance across Arkansas saw 40,444 registrations overall. The Disaster Housing Program approved a total of $10,615,910.76, with the Individual and Family Grant Program making eligible $2,265,827.32 as of March 21. In Nevada County there were 492 loans approved. In housing assistance the area received $159,342.28, along with $27,157.99 in individual family grants. The SBA loans were not broken down by counties, as were the individual assistance grants and disaster housing funds. As of March 23, the there had been 847 home loans for $4,057,000 through the SBA, loans for $1,085,0000 for business physical damage, and another 120 business economic development loans for $1,627,000.
