HORNE FUNERAL HOME of GURDON

Gladys Sherman, 91, of Gurdon died Saturday, March 31, 2001.

Mrs. Sherman was a retired employee of Arkla Gas and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon. She was an active member of the Gurdon community for many years. After retiring from Arkla Gas Company she was prominent in many city activities and projects. She was active in all areas of the First United Methodist Church, the various youth departments, Sunday school teacher, women's groups, a member of the church choir for many years, on various committees of the church choir and the church board.

Mrs. Sherman also participated in school activities during the time her husband was a teacher, coach and principal of Gurdon High School.

She also belonged to several clubs for women, Retired Veterans Auxiliary, Federation of American Women's Club, Garden Club and she helped in the organization of the Gurdon Senior Adult Center. She was well known and loved. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Family mourning her death include two daughters, Bette DuVall of Benton and Mary Gray of Gurdon; one brother, Robert P. Taylor of San Angelo, Texas; one sister, Nelle E. Shipley of San Angelo, Texas; one half-sister, Frances Stanley of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.

Her husband, Ed Sherman preceded her in death.

Funeral services were Monday, April 2, at First United Methodist of Gurdon with Rev. Rusty Jones officiating. Interment was in Rose Hedge Cemetery by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon.
