Classy Moments from Cabe Middle School

Published Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

Adjusting to the time change is just another minor little detail that we will be working on. Although we always welcome a challenge, sometimes it seems as though they come more often than we would prefer.

Several eighth grade girls were invited to a big sleep-in at Melanie Shults's home in Springhill. Excitement was in the air. It looked as though a U-Haul would be needed to carry all of the sleeping bags and other things. Melanie was observing a big birthday and it just would not be the same without her friends there to help celebrate. Her mom came with Melanie to get the girls at the end of class Friday. We will hear about this later.

The eighth graders have been busy reciting the Gettysburg Address. Can you imagine a teacher requiring this be done and not to change the words? What nerve! Those who did not believe they could do this surprised themselves as they stood before the class and recited it very well.

Seems as though the eighth graders have been so busy this week. Graduation for the eighth grade is in the making. Students were measured for their caps and gowns with great excitement. Most of the eighth graders will be taking part in this big event for them, but there are some who selected not to take part. Of course we would rather that all would take part, as it would be a complete class.

Debbie Daniels, our school nurse, spent her last day with us Friday. A big Subway sandwich, chips, dips, cakes, etc. were enjoyed by all as this was our way of saying farewell. But come for a visit soon, Debbie, and you, too, Mrs. Smithey.

Mrs. Smithey has her new office in the high school building, but we know that she will be back and forth to see us.

Turkey hunting. Goodness, yes! At least that is what we have been hearing from several students. So many different types of turkey callers. They seem to be aware of the safety requirements and we just hope that they do enjoy the hunt while being a safe hunter.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the fifth, sixth, and eighth graders will have the Stanford 9 test. We've decided it's best to start on Tuesday instead of Monday due to the time change. Hopefully, they will have adjusted by Tuesday.

Spring has sprung. We are anxious to enjoy warmer weather for a few days. Warm or cold we are here making those Classy Moments at CMS.
