Armstrong Earns Recognition

Published Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

The U.S. Achievement Academy has announced that Sarah Ann Armstrong of Gurdon and Camille Hart of Arkadelphia have been named U.S. national award winners in history and government.

This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. In fact the academy recognizes fewer than 10% of all American high school students.

Armstrong, who attends Cabe Middle School, was nominated for this national award by Ann Clingan, a teacher at the school.

Hart, who attends Goza Junior High School, was nominated for this national award by Traci Thomas, a teacher at the school.

They will appear in the official yearbook of academy, which is published nationally.

Armstrong is the daughter of Milton and Ann Marshall of Gurdon and Dwayne and Jamie Allen of Grapeland, Texas.

Her grandparents are Sarah Alice Cherry of College Station, Texas, and Jimmy Brent of Grapeland.

Hart is the daughter of Benny and Gloria Hart of Arkadelphia.

Her grandparents are Joshua and Allie Ware of Arkadelphia and Annie Sue Hart of Gurdon.

The academy selects winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and upon the standards of selection set forth by the academy.

The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability and the recommendation from a teacher or director.
