EHS Senior Earns AAA Recognition

Published Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) has recently recognized a graduating senior at Emmet High School with its prestigious Active Scholar Award. This year's recipient is Rose Martin.

The award was presented to Martin, who ranks in the top ten percent of her class academically as determined by her grade point average for seven semesters, beginning with the ninth grade, and who has participated in interscholastic activities at least two years beginning with the ninth grade, one of which must be the senior year.

Each recipient received a certificate and letters of congratulations from Gov. Mike Huckabee and the director of the Arkansas Department of Education, Raymond Simon.

The AAA believes the outstanding students who excel academically and who have also developed leadership, confidence and skill through interscholastic activities, are especially deserving of recognition.

School activities are often called "the other half of education," because of their potential for supplementing the secondary curricular program with education for personal development which contributes to good citizenship.

The AAA, on behalf of its 480-member schools, serves as a state office to administer student eligibility and to sanction, coordinate or direct state events and championships in eighteen athletic areas and numerous non-athletic interscholastic activities.
