Published Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

The annual Ila Upchurch banquet has been set for April 28 at the McRae Middle School cafeteria. The speaker for this year's banquet will be U.S. Rep. Mike Ross.

There will also be local and out of town entertainment during the banquet.

The Upchurch banquet is one of many fund-raisers of the corporation.

Nominees are being sought for outstanding senior, educator of the year and citizen of the year. There will also be two $300 scholarships to be given to two graduating seniors of the class of 2001.

Anyone wanting to nominate a person needs to complete an application and a short essay, which will be reviewed by judges. A final selection of one winner in each category will then be made. You may pick up a form at the Ila Upchurch Center Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Nominations are open to the public.

Tickets for the banquet will be available beginning March 28. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any board member or by calling Gladys Kirby at 887-2768 or Wila Muldrew at 887-2980.
