Close-Up Students Ready For DC TripPublished Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon High School students are excited about their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C., with the Close Up program. The trip is scheduled for the first week of April. There will be 17 GHS students going to the nation's capital with two chaperones. The students are Wesley Boyce, Tinesha Burton, Chad Edwards, Lyndi Escalante, Matthew Gills, Patrick Haynie, Vance Key, Angela Long, Autumn Morgan, Brent Overbey, Jimmy Plyler, Skye Potter, Rayanne Ross, Katrina Simpson, Justin Smith, Whitney Smith and Bradley Weems. The chaperones are Carolyn Kuhn, a teacher, and Linda Bragswell. The group will travel with students and teachers from Jessieville. These Close Up participants will visit Capitol Hill and meet and question Washington insiders, including congressional leaders, political advisors and journalists. They will share perspectives with their peers from other areas of the country during daily current issue debates, discussions and activities. In addition there will be opportunities to tour the city, visit local universities and attend cultural events. Close Up provides fellowships for teachers and low-income students through a Congressional appropriatio with additional support from the private sector.
