Probation Given To Gurdon WomanBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in the Gurdon Times A 35-year-old Gurdon woman was given five years probation after pleading nolo contendere to five counts of theft of property on March 11. According to court records, on Aug. 10, the Clark County Sheriff's Office got a call from John Vansickle saying Rhonda Renee Johnson was manager at one of his Red-E-Mart convenience stores in Gurdon. Vansickle said Johnson was in charge of collecting money and making the daily deposits. However, when the July 2,000 bank statement arrived, it showed the account to be short $9,623.62, even though Johnson had sent Vansickle slips showing deposits had been made. She claimed someone had stolen the receipts from June 23-25, and she had been making them up by taking other receipts and substituting them for the lost ones. Vansickle counted the money in the safe, finding it to be $600 short, and fired Johnson. He then went to First State Bank to get copies of the deposits from July 3-10. Bank records showed the $9,623.62 had never been deposited. On March 11, 2001, Johnson entered a plea of nolo contendere and was given five years probation and ordered to pay restitution.
