Oak Grove Program Proving A SuccessPublished Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe tutoring program initiated on January 22 in the community of Oak Grove is proving to be very successful. The student participating rate has been positive. Thirty-five active students are currently enrolled for this program. The range of students stretched from first grade to 10th grade. Three core subjects are stressed: math, English and reading. Other subjects are addressed as well. Parents, peers and teacher involvement have been overwhelmingly positive. The program enlists three certified instructors, three student tutors and four parent volunteers. The basic belief of the programs mission statement is children must be empowererd to academically succeed.' Patrons of the program have made a financial investment by providing generous donations to the program itself. These donations have enabled parent-volunteer to prepare nutritional snacks daily. Sherry Bailey, program president, wishes to extend her gratitude for all help and assistance thus far.
