Helping someone out proved costly to a Prescott woman.

Court records state Beverly Hamm had let Cheryl Creech and her children stay with her as Creech was in the midst of a divorce.

When the situation got untenable in October, 2000, according to the records, Hamm asked Creech to leave. She did.

However, after Creech left, Hamm noticed several things missing from her home. These items includes a solid silver set of silverware, a lock box with personal papers and a diamond bracelet.

According to court records, the silverware set was valued at $2,500, while the bracelet cost $600.

A witness was invited to a birthday party at Creech's new residence in December, 2000, and noticed the expensive silverware set.

Another person noticed the diamond bracelet Creech was wearing as it was too large for her wrist.

Hamm had told officers Creech was the only person who could have taken these items.

She was arrested and charged with theft over $500, a class C felony, with a sentence of 3-10 years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
