The radiothon will feature not only hot country hits from KVRC, but also celebrity endorsements from country music entertainers and touching appeals by St. Jude patients, parents and staff. Country Cares for St. Jude Kids is one of the most successful radio fund-raising events in the United States. Since the program began in 1989 more than $135 million in pledges have been raised for St. Jude. Randy Owen, lead singer of the country music group Alabama, helped start Country Cares in 1989 after meeting hospital founder Danny Thomas. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. It is an internationally recognized biomedical research center dedicated to finding cures for the catastrophic diseases of children. The hospital's work is supported primarily through public contributions raised by the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC). All St. Jude patients are treated regardless of their ability to pay. ALSAC covers all costs beyond those reimbursed by third party insurers, and total costs for families who have no insurance. You can be a part of this work at St. Jude Hospital by calling in your pledge to the radiothon at (870)246-4561, or by bringing your donation to 1100 South Third Street in Arkadelphia during the radiothon.
