Accident Leaves One Dead

A 16-year-old Gurdon High School student lost his life as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

According to Clark County Sheriff Troy Tucker, Patrick Stone, son of Patricia and Dane Stone, died Saturday, April 24 from injuries sustained in the accident from Thursday, April 22.

The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. with two vehicles involved, Tucker said.

A 1998 Accura, driven by Kyndrian Stafford, 15, and 1989 Thunderbird, driven by Stone, with three others as passengers, were traveling east on the Old Gurdon Highway.

The accident occurred approximately seven-tenths of a mile west of Gurdon.

Cole Deaton, 16, Adam Gooding, 16, and Bryan Rutherford, 16, were passengers in the Stone vehicle.

Stone was first taken to Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, but later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

Rutherford was taken to Baptist in Arkadelphia for treatment to his injuries, while Deaton and Gooding were treated and released from Baptist.

Tucker said all of those involved were students at Gurdon High School and were on their way home after school.

According to preliminary reports, the two vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed. The Stone vehicle left the road and flipped several times.
