Prescott Building Nominated For Historic RegisterPublished Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe State Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) nominated 13 Arkansas properties, including the Allen Tire Company and Gas Station at Prescott, for nomination to the National Register of Historic places when it met March 7, AHPP director Ken Grunewald has announced. The Allen Tire Company and Gas Station is located at 228 West First Street South in Prescott and was built around 1924. Fay's Hair Styling occupies the building presently. "The Allen Tire Company and Gas Station is the only Craftsman-style gas station remaining in Prescott," the National Register nomination says. "The station's location at the corner of First Street and Vine (one block from the railroad depot and at the edge of the commercial district) made it visible to the motorists of Prescott in the early days of car travel. Today, the same location and the preservation of the building's impressive arched car shelter make it a community landmark." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
