Eckert Faces Felony ChargesBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in the Gurdon Times Gurdon's Tommy Joe Eckert, 21, has been charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons. This is a class D felony with a sentence up to six years in prison and a fine not to exceed $10,000. According to court records, on Jan. 21, 2001, the Gurdon Police Department received a call concerning a family disturbance. Officer Garry Marshall responded, going to the Eckert home, as a weapon was supposedly involved in the disturbance. According to the call received by the GPD, Eckert was scaring his girlfriend and neighbors with the weapon. Marshall found Eckert at 6th and Beech streets, searched him and found a .22-caliber handgun with two fully loaded clips in a duffel bag. As the suspect had a prior felony record, he wasn't supposed to have a weapon. The trial had been scheduled for March 26, but has been postponed until April 26.
