Clean-Up Continues In Clark County

Crews with TAG Grinding of Palmetto, Ga., have until March 27, to get Clark County cleaned up.

This shouldn't be a problem, according to Clark County Judge Floyd "Buddy" Manning, as the company is about 85 percent finished already.

At this time, Manning said, TAG crews are still working in the northwest part of the county, from the Alpine area to the west and north. Other areas still being cleared from the Christmas Day ice storm are in the Shiloh community and in Vaden, where crews can't get because it's still too wet.

"We need a few days of dry weather," Manning said, "so they can get in these areas."

Rain, he said, has slowed everything down, but TAG should have the county cleanup finished in the next week or two.

The best part, according to Manning, is the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been instructed to pay for 100 percent of the cleanup costs.

When the disaster first hit, FEMA was told the payout would be 75 percent federal, 12.5 percent state and 12.5 percent local.

This, though, was changed to 90 percent federal, and 5 percent each from state and local governments.

Additionally, the deadline for the cleanup was extended from Feb. 27, to April 27.

Manning extended TAG's contract to March 27 and is pushing for the company to be done by then.

"This is holding up progress," he said. "There's other work to be done."
