Published Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

The Arkansas Artists Registry will present the exhibition Arkansas: The Land and People May 6 through June 25, according to James E. Mitchell, executive director of the Arkansas Arts Council.

The gallery is located at 323 Center St. in Little Rock. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

The exhibition will open with a public reception on May 6 at 4:30 p.m.

Arkansas: The Land and People is one of many events celebrating the month of May as Heritage Month in Arkansas. One exhibit will be three-dimensional works by fourteen registry member craft artists who use materials that originate from the land. The works represent traditional creative techniques used by Arkansans.

Also on view will be two-dimensional work by J.W. Good of Pine Bluff, winner of the Arkansas Heritage Month poster competitive, and works by finalists Ruth 'Granny Chicken' Brigham of Fox, Janice Crummer of Vilonia and Deborah Warren of Hot Springs.

Works of art by selected participants and winners of the 1999 U.S. District Two Congressional high school competition and the 1999 Federal Junior Duck Stamp contest will also be part of the exhibition.

"This exhibition is an exceptional opportunity to see two- and three-dimensional works by Arkansas artists young and old," Carolina Brown, Registry gallery manager, said.
