Published Wednesday, March 7, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

Forty-eight juniors and seniors at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia have been accepted as new members to Alpha Chi, the national college honor scholarship society.

Marsha Walters of Prescott, a junior mass communications-broadcasting major, was selected for the society.

Others selected were Lesley Walthall of Willisville, a junior computer science major; Brenda Brantley of Rosston, a senior social work major; Amanda Clift of Emmet, a junior criminal justice major; Sandra Wicker of Emmet, a senior elementary education major; and James Teague of Blevins, a junior biological science major.

The initiates, elected by faculty review, represent the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes in each of the University's four schools. These students reflect not only high scholarship, but also good reputation and character.

Those presiding over the ceremony were Dr. Gayle White, professor of management; Dr. Marshall Horton, associate professor of economics; Dr. Suzanne Jessup, professor of education and Alpha Chi chapter sponsor at SAU; and Pamela Price, SAU chapter president.
