Gurdon WAter And Sewer Hoping To Get GeneratorBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 7, 2001 in the Gurdon Times The Gurdon Water and Sewer Commission continues to pursue the generator issue. At the meeting commissioners conversed on the details of the 60-kilowatt generator with a tandem six-axle trailer. Outgoing Mayor Rick Smith is assisting department manager Harold Hurst in obtaining the approximately $14,000 generator. More difficult to obtain may be the electrical switches required for the generators to be used. Costing $1,000 per switch, Hurst will be contacting South Central Electric Cooperative soon for one of these switches. The switches turn off the generator once electricity has been restored to a well. The water department has a retiring employee, Larry Congers. Hurst expressed the need to start seeking a replacement as soon as possible. Congers will retire from the department at the end of May. But Hurst and the commissioners all conveyed concern with finding an adequate replacement with the desired qualifications in this tight job market. Costs of hiring an adequate replacement was discussed. Hurst commenting on the need for new commissioners stated, "Commissioners must live in the city limits." With disappointment Hurst continued, "I wanted to see if it was possible to have one commissioner at least for the out of city limits customers. I was informed that because the city of Gurdon clinically owns the water system, commissioners must live in the city." This was the final meeting for outgoing commissioner Danny Paull. Paull resigned his seat on the commission effective at the end of the meeting due to his new position on the Gurdon City Council. Paull reassured the council of his continued interest in the water department. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
