Classy Moments from Cabe Middle SchoolPublished Wednesday, March 7, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesWe have just completed a very busy week. Beside the routine things, like going to class and eating lunch, we had spring school pictures taken. The fifth and sixth graders had class pictures taken. Ident-A-Kid took some time to get completed. This provided an identification program specifically for middle school students. The pre-drivers I.D. program provided a card, similar to that of a driver's license, provided a photograph, fingerprint, weigh and height of the student. It was suggested that two cards be purchased, as the parents should keep one and the student have one of their own. The features of the laminated card contain important confidential information. The information will provide I.D. for school emergencies, medical emergencies and various other activities. The seventh and eighth grade classes attended a presentation by the Courage House on Rape Prevention Education. The presentation was conducted in two sessions, one for the girls and one for the boys. Excellent information was given to each student attending, especially hints and suggestions, on prevention and safety. The county spelling bee was conducted and we congratulate our own Kolby Harper, who won a third place trophy and Sydney Jester for winning a very close fourth place. We are proud of the five from CMS who took part in this competition, and especially a big thanks to Mrs. Kay Downey for taking care of this challenge. The Gurdon School bands presented a concert Thursday evening before a standing room only audience. Nothing but great can be said about the performance. Mr. Allen Wimberly, your hard work was made obvious. The CMS choir participated in the Southwest Region Choir Festival. The CMS Girls Chorus and the eighth grade Girls Ensemble received first division superior ratings. We are proud of each of you. Thanks, Mrs. Sandra Hitt, for a job well done. Students seem to be getting ready for spring break, (probably the teachers, also). The week of March 19-23 will be observed as spring break. The way time seems to be flying by, it will be here before you know it. March 15 will be parent/teacher conferences, the last one for this school year. We always appreciate the parents who take the time to attend those conferences. We know that some parents are not able to attend due to their work schedule and we ask that they call for an appointment with a teacher, if needed, at a time that will be satisfactory with both. Plans are always in the making to continue to make CMS a better school while we make those Classy Moments that will last for many, many years.
