Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. To any woman who would like to get together with another woman to pray may get in touch with the local area contact person of Moms in Touch, Beth Ward, at 870-887-6376. For the past three years the local schools have been covered in prayer by a group of moms who meet on Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church to pray for one hour. Southwest Arkansas Development Council is now taking applications for the winter home energy assistance program. Applications will be taken Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. at 304 East Vine St. Call 887-5171 for an appointment. Non-food stamp households should take proof of household income and a recent stub from your heating bill when you go to make an application. The eighth annual Sawmill Days Festival will take place Saturday, April 14, in downtown Sparkman. Crafters, vendors and entertainers are needed to make this year's event a success. The Miss Sawmill Days Pageant will be held Saturday, March 24, and will take place in the Sparkman School cafeteria at 6 p.m. For more information call 870-678-221 during the day or 870-678-9389 after 6 p.m. Mount Moriah Cemetery Association will meet for its annual meeting Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Church, located on Highway 371, south of Laneburg. Everyone is invited to attend. The Emmet School Board will have its regular meeting Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in room 4. The agenda will include elementary and high school principals' reports, superintendent's report, change April board meeting to April 9 and personnel matters. Jason and Jill Arrington of Magnolia, formerly of Nevada County, announce the birth of their first child, Joshua Andrew Arrington. Joshua was born Tuesday, January 30, 2001. He was three pounds 12 ounces. His grandparents are Larry and Caroline Arrington of Stephens and Gil and Pat Gilreath of Magnolia. The Tri-County Beef Conference has been changed from March 12 to April 2 in Hope. The conference will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. It will be held at Hope Livestock Auction Barn on Highway 67 South. Revival services will be held at New Beginning FGBC, 113 East Elm Street, Monday, March 19 through Friday, March 23, at 7:30 nightly. Rev. A.T. Jordan of Nash, Texas, will be the evangelist.
