Officers with the Prescott Police Department were kept busy during the year 2000.

They opened 434 cases and worked about 75 vehicle accidents, along with an undetermined number of accidents on private property.

Officers filed 60 misdemeanor and felony affidavits during the year, and unlocked a large number of vehicles for citizens. They also attended community events as part of the department's public relation's efforts.

Officers worked 50 battery cases during the year. These incidents ranged from first to third degree battery, and included domestic battery and one incident of battery on a police officer.

There were six shoplifting cases investigated, with more than 90 theft of property incidents worked by the officers. The theft cases included one case of theft of government property, the theft of cell phones, weapons and theft of services.

Four attempted break-in cases were investigated during 2000, while there were three break-ins and 11 incidents of breaking or entering.

Nine burglary cases were checked, with four reports of commercial burglary and 18 cases of residential burglary probed.

The PPD officers also worked a number of drug-related cases, ranging from possession of a controlled substance, to simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers were also kept busy dealing with drunk drivers. A total of 31 DWI cases were worked during the year, with six being second and third offenses.

Three reports of possible residential abuse were investigated in town as well.

Officers handled 46 cases of criminal mischief and seven regarding property damage, along with one case of vandalism and one of vehicle damage.

Disorderly conduct and public intoxication kept the officers busy as well, as they had 24 cases of these two crimes.

Two cases of carnal abuse were investigated, along with two cases of carrying weapons onto school property.

Other cases worked included: harassment, harassing phone calls, house fire, terroristic threatening, curfew violation, missing person, runaways, counterfeit payroll checks, dog bites, forgery, credit card fraud, arson, criminal impersonation and an unattended death.
