Billy Joe Freeman, 70, of Prescott died Monday, February 16, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Freeman was born August 5, 1930, in Naples, Texas. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church of Prescott and a resident of Prescott for 37 years.

After 35 years of service, he retired from General Telephone Company in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Prior to moving to Prescott, Mr. Freeman served on the volunteer Fire Department in Augusta, and was a member of the Augusta Jaycees. Bill was the first official 8-mm reel cameraman for the Prescott Curley Wolves football team dating from 1967 to 1974.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Maxine Richey Freeman; two daughters, Vicki Marlar and her husband Ricky, and Melinda (Booie) Williams all of Prescott; three grandchildren, Tonda and Jim Pennington of Willisville; Tori and Teddy Rocole of Magnolia, and Tamara Marlar of Magnolia; one great granddaughter, Kathryne Rocole of Magnolia; and two great grandsons, Joe Don Rocole of Magnolia and Bryer Pennington of Willisville; two brothers, Wilburn Freeman of Harlington, Texas, and Jack and Lil Freeman of Dekalb, Texas; two sisters, Dolly Gray of Omaha, Texas, and Betty and Larry Richey of Hurst, Texas; three chosen daughters, Peggy Smart of Piggott, Katie Eldridge of Little Rock and Susanne Chambless of Prescott; one special son, Tom Futch of Houston, Texas, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, February 28, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Prescott with Tal Webb, Bill Carpenter and Jimmy Hull officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Prescott by Shackelford Funeral Home of Prescott. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Prescott or to your favorite charity.
