Nita Stephens, 54, of Hope formerly of Emmet, died Friday, February 23, 2001, at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

Mrs. Stephens was born August 9, 1946, in Rochester, N.Y., to John and Marie Malatino. She was a housewife, mother and private sitter. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her father, John Malatino, and one sister, Rose Marie Malatino.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Stephens of Hope; three sons, Brian Hardy of Hope, P.J. Hardy of Emmet and David Stephens of Hope; two daughters, Jo Ann Elder of Texarkana and Linda Stephens of Hope; her mother, Marie Malatino of California; and two grandchildren, Joseph Elder of Stamps and Dillon Clark of Texarkana.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 25, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Frank Henson officiating. Burial was in Snell Cemetery in Emmet under the direction of Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home of Hope.
