Gurdon's Lady Devils's appearance in the regional tournament was short-lived as they were eliminated by Centerpoint 57-47 in the first round.

However, the game began with the Lady Devils playing at the top of their game. In fact, they played the best eight minutes of basketball they played all season in going out to a 22-18 lead in the first quarter.

The Lady Devils were hot at the outset nailing four three-point shots and leaving the Lady Knights looking stunned from the tip.

The Lady Devils controlled the pace, running at will, playing solid defense and dominated the home team.

However, the Lady Knights rallied late in the quarter to cut Gurdon's lead to 22-18 going into the second.

Centerpoint scored the first five points of the second period to take the lead as Gurdon's Lady Devils went cold, and were only able to score six points in the frame.

The shots were there for Gurdon, but the ball simply refused to fall.

On the other side of the court, the Lady Knights were able to control the pace, and slowed the game to suit themselves while pulling away to a 33-28 lead at the half.

Gurdon nailed a trey to open play in the third quarter, but again had problems finding the bottom of the bucket.

This wasn't the case for the Lady Knights as they were more methodical.

Gurdon stayed close by stealing the ball, forcing turnovers and being aggressive on defense. However, the Lady Devils just couldn't buy points as their shots would rim out.

Period three ended with Centerpoint leading 42-36.

Gurdon tightened its defense in the fourth quarter, but wasn't able to score no matter what.

The Lady Knights, though, were more consistent in scoring and pulled away to a 48-38 lead with 5:10 remaining in the game.

The Lady Devils cut the lead to 53-42 late, but were forced to foul.

Vanessa Young led Gurdon with 12, while Sally Beasley added 10.

Gurdon hit 10 of 13 free throws.

Kayla Rice was the game's leading scorer with 16 for the Lady Knights. Shannon Bolle added 15, with Kaci Kelley tossing in 12.

The Lady Knights hit eight of 14 from the line.
