Scoliosis Screenings Set For Gurdon StudentsPublished Wednesday, February 28, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesIn the next few weeks the Gurdon School District will be conducting a scoliosis screening program to find children with suspected curvature of the spine. According to information available, seven to 10 children in every 100 may develop coliosis, and one to three will require treatment. If this condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity can be prevented. The procedure for screening is a simple one in which the screener looks at the child's back in the standing position and the forward bending position. The child must have his or her shirt off during the screening process so that the spine can be fully visualized. If your child has a suspected curvature you will be notified and asked to take your child to your family physician, pediatrician or an orthopedist for diagnosis. Call Gurdon Primary School for more information at 353-4321. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
