Letter To The Editor

I have advised my attorney to withdraw my application for a private club permit with the ABC Board. The outrage and controversy has gotten to a point that I can no longer pursue this effort. The slander against myself and the falsehoods being spread around the community about our lodge have intensified and must be squelched for the sake of the community.

Our pursuit of the ABC permit was an honest effort on our part to have more control over our guests. We felt that with the permit we could limit a person's consumption on our premises; whereas, without a permit we have very limited control. Our concerns about drunken-driving, the safety of our children and the health of our community are the same as your concerns. People who choose to drink are going to do so. We wanted to have as much control over guests at our properties as possible, which the permit would have given us, with the added benefit to the local community that any violations on our part could result in sanctions from the state or even the termination of our business.

Stag's Leap Lodge is exactly that  a lodge. We offer a nice place for guests to bring family, friends, business customers, or employees for a nice dinner and a place to relax or have a business meeting. We have had many events here and there has never been a problem, or even a complaint about the conduct of our guests. We never have or never will entertain the thought of becoming a "bar." We have been a good neighbor in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

The wounds are deep, the rhetoric has been hurtful, and feelings have been bruised; but we can put this behind us and strive for a bright future. We hope this community will join us in this effort. I regret that this situation caused so much controversy and would like to ask for you understanding.
