Prescott Man Violates Parole; Sent To Prison

BY JOHN MILLER

Education is expensive, especially when the court system is involved.

After being convicted of possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony, on March 23, 2000, Roger Dale Waid, 34, of Prescott, was given three years probation.

Instead of taking advantage of the court's graces, Waid violated probation by not reporting to his probation officer or complying with the special conditions set by the court. The conditions were to complete a drug rehabilitation program.

Originally, Nevada County Sheriff Steve Otwell had received information Waid had drugs in his vehicle, a 1991 Toyota van.

On March 19, 2000, Otwell and deputy Larry Miller went to the Dale Waid residence, where Roger Waid gave them permission to search the vehicle. They found a plastic bag with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, two packages of rolling papers and an alligator clip in the glove compartment. Waid was arrested.

He pled guilty to the charges on March 23, 2000, and was given three years' probation and orders to complete a drug rehabilitation program.

He didn't twice.

The second time he violated parole, he was picked up for failing to avoid injurious or vicious habits (such as drug and alcohol use), failing to report to the probation officer and not paying his fine and court costs.

This time he was sentenced to two years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, with a judicial transfer to a drug rehabilitation program. The sentence was levied Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
