Banquet To Be Held In Oak Grove Daycare CenterPublished Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe annual Oak Grove District Civic League banquet will be held Saturday, May 8, in the Oak Grove Daycare Center banquet room. The banquet will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Maurice Rigsby, a 1990 graduate of Nevada Schools, will be the keynote speaker. Rigsby is the political director for the Democratic party of Arkansas. He is responsible for advising national, state and local candidates on campaign strategies. Before joining the Democratic party, Rigsby served as legislative assistant to U.S. Congressman Vic Snyder in Washington, D.C. His duties included managing activities for legislative issues areas including transportation, government reform, and judiciary, health care, veteran affairs and environment. Rigsby is a graduate of Philander Smith College in Little Rock. During the 1994-95 school year, he served as Student Government Association president. Before graduating, he also served as a White House intern in the office of presidential personnel and as an intern in the office of the governor. Rigsby is a recipient of numerous honors and accolades. They include the Congressional Medal of Merit presented by then Congressman Beryl Anthony, the Freeman McKindra Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service, the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award presented by then Sen. David Pryor, the Crawford J. Mims Rotary Club Scholarship Award, and Outstanding Young Man of America. In 1997 Risgby received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserve after eight years of service. He is the son of Ruthenia Rigsby of Rosston.
