Arts Council Awards Friday, May 21Published Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneJames E. Mitchell, executive director of the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, has announced that the application deadline for Arts Council fellowship awards to individual artists for fiscal year 2000 is Friday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m. Arts Council fellowships are unconditional awards granted in recognition of artistic accomplishments. The council has traditionally awarded up to seven $5,000 fellowships each year. The categories for this year are film and video and contemporary crafts and sculpture. To be eligible for an Arts Council fellowship award, an artist must be at least 25 years old and must have been an Arkansas resident for at least one year. Degree-seeking students in the selected disciplines and previous recipients of Arkansas Arts Council fellowships are not eligible. Historically, artists who receive fellowships demonstrate a career-long commitment to the art discipline for which they apply and have created a substantial body of work.
