Oak Grove NewsLULA KENDRICKPublished Wednesday, February 7, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune I attended Oak Grove Baptist Church Sunday morning. You talk about a wonderful service. They have a very good pastor, Rev. Parsha. The church was full. They really have a lot of children. I have never seen so many children at Oak Grove. He is a very good leader. We have been suffering from leadership in the Oak Grove community. They have a good choir, senior and junior. They can really sing. Dave Coleman and his wife came back home and joined right in. Annual Black History in honor of Bro. Brocy Yarbrough of Whites Chapel AME Church was Sunday, February 4. The welcome was by Sis. Mandy Hunter. The occasion was by Sister Sarah Green. Moments of reflecting was a brother. Pastor is Rev. E. Jenkins. The message of the hour was by Rev. Ben Thomas. Presentation of gifts was by the Stewarts. Bro. Bobby Allen's church was full of family and friends. It was really nice. They gave him his flowers while he lives. Calvin Coolidge Meadows' funeral was held Saturday, February 3, at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Rosston with Rev. Bobby Box officiating. Calvin was born November 8, 1924, in Rosston. He graduated from Nevada County Training School and also attended AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) and earned a bachelor of science degree in criminology from Wayne State University. Final arrangements were intrusted to A.O. Smith Funeral Home of Stamps. It was a military funeral. It was carried out nicely. He passed away peacefully at Mount Clements General Hospital in Mount Clements, Mich., after a long illness. Mrs. Malvin Lee Giles sang a solo Going Up Younger. Jewel Muldrow, 87, died Thursday, January 30, in a local hospital. He was a member of St. Peter AME Church of Willisville. He lived at Rosston. His funeral was held the same time my cousin's was. I was sorry I could not attend. Sympathy goes out to the Muldrow family and Haynie and Meadows family. Let's pray for the sick and shut in. Brocy Tidwell is not doing well at all. His boys says that they had to put him in the nursing home in Hot Springs. Men's day was held at Oak Grove Sunday afternoon. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
