There will be a private applicator pesticide training session in Nevada County Feb. 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office on Highway 67 South in Prescott. Weighing 7 lbs. 6 oz., Tyia is welcomed home by big brother Tyrik. Grandparents are Annie Thomas and Willie Hunter of Gurdon. The city of Gurdon is seeking volunteers to assist people in debris removal from their property. Any persons seeking assistance or interested in volunteering should call 353-2514. DeGray Lake Resort State Park will be hosting a square dance at the Lodge Convention Center Friday, Feb. 9, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. LaVerne Anderson of Bryant will teach the spring dog obedience class for the Humane Society of Clark County. Anderson has trained dogs for more than 50 years. She is an AKC judge and Arkansas' delegate to the AKC. The first of ten classes will begin Feb. 21 in the old Goza Junior High Gym in Arkadelphia. Beginners classes will meet at 6:30 p.m. and advanced class meets at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for new class members and $20 for those repeating the class. Eastern Star Baptist Church will hold its sixth annual Valentine's program Sunday, Feb. 11, at 2:30 p.m. Guest churches include Gennerset Baptist Church of Arkadelphia and Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gurdon. The theme is Bring a Sweetheart to Church.' The eighth annual Sawmill Days Festival will take place Saturday, April 14, in downtown Sparkman. Crafters, vendors and entertainers are needed to make this year's event a success. The Miss Sawmill Days Pageant will be held Saturday, March 24, and will take place in the Sparkman School cafeteria at 6 p.m. For more information call 870-678-221 during the day or 870-678-9389 after 6 p.m. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
