Baseball Boosters Raising Funds To Improve FieldsPublished Wednesday, February 7, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesThe Gurdon Baseball Booster Club is in the process of raising funds to make Gurdon's baseball-softball park one of the nicest parks around. Cabe Field is in desperate need of major work. This work includes sodding the field, doing dirt work on the field, painting the bleachers, making fence repairs and doing work on the lighting system. These are just a few of the many things that need to be done to the park. Ricky Griffin, president of the Gurdon Baseball Booster Club, and other members are in the process of finding ways to fund the repairs. Several grants have been written to fund the renovation project. One fund-raiser for the improvements is a sign campaign. Ron Freer, on behalf of International Paper Company, has donated all the plywood that will be used to paint the signs on. These attractive advertisement signs will display the name of the business purchasing the sign. The purchase price of the sign will be $130-$170, depending on the number of colors to be on the sign. Fifty dollars of this money will go to the Baseball Booster Club with the remaining money paying for the painting of the sign. Sherry Gosne of Sherry's Art will be painting the signs. Each year the business will then have to pay $50 to keep its sign hanging on the fence at the ballpark. Teresa Jester is in charge of contacting the community about the signs. Anyone interested in purchasing a sign may contact Teresa at 353-4744; Ricky at 353-6656, or Sherry at 353-6289. Other fund-raisers will take place soon.
