Club News - Rose Garden Club

The Rose Garden Club met in the parlor of First United Methodist Church January 23 at 1:30 p.m. Hostesses were Evelyn Daniel and Betty Avery.

Betty Tuner, president, presided over a short business session.

She stated that the Arkansas State Flower and Garden Show will be held at the Convention Center in Little Rock March 2, 3 and 4. The Arkansas State Convention will be held in Hot Springs March 19, 20 and 21 at the Convention Center.

She said that Arbor Day will be observed March 19 and she requested the members be thinking about what the club would like to do for that occasion.

Jack and Shirley Pratt with Old Washington Historic State Parks presented the program on Historic Gardens of Arkansas.'

They were dressed in period costumes and took the group back to 1848. Mr. Pratt portrayed Simon Sanders, the Hempstead County Clerk at that time. He stated that the early settlers planted root crops, the dependable crops such as corn, okra, sweet potatoes, etc.

They showed pictures of a variety of plants that the early settlers planted. They also showed pictures of flowers the early settlers brought to this area.

Their program was most entertaining and was very unique. If other clubs are interested they may be reached at 870-983-2684.

The hostesses served a delicious dessert.
