Vermont Completes AAFP Education UpdatePublished Wednesday, January 31, 2001 in the Nevada County PicayuneDr. Charles Allan Vermont, a family physician from Prescott, has completed continuing medical education requirements to retain active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the national association of family doctors. AAFP members are required to complete a minimum of 150 hours of accredited continuing medical study every three years. The Academy, with 89,400 members, is one of the largest medical specialty organizations in the country. It was the first national medical group to require continuing medical education for its members, thus ensuring their continuing medical expertise. The specialty of family practice combines the latest in medical technologies with a long tradition of caring and service. Today's family physician is educated and trained to care for the whole person, treating the majority of medical problems. Vermont has been an active member since November 1, 1991. Family practice was recognized in 1969 as a medical specialty by the American Medical Association and the American Board of Medical Specialities.
