Fire Department Needs Help

For over a year now seven members of the Fairview, Nubbin Hill and Pleasant Hill communities have worked very hard to establish the Fairhills Rural Volunteer Fire Department. The first meeting was at the Nevada County Courthouse. At that meeting a board was established and work began. There are so many steps paperwork, filing for grants, raising money, etc. It takes time, but most importantly, it takes interested people.

The board members have spent every Tuesday night for months and many Saturdays working on this. Many members of these communities have supported the effort with their donations and we are very grateful. On work days, however, it was members of Laneburg, Rosston and Bodcaw communities who came to help us. We need more volunteers from our own communities to help with the building, ditch-digging, painting, money-making projects, etc.

Our main concern is that not enough people have volunteered to be fire fighters. We have a truck and a building near completion. That won't matter, though, if we don't have enough man power to operate it.

We will be meeting Tuesday, February 6, at 7 p.m. at the Fairview Church building. If you are interested in keeping this work going, please come and let us know. There will also be a work day on February 10 at 10 a.m. at the fire station, located at the Pleasant Hill Church grounds. Realizing this dream of a rural fire station will benefit all of us, on our house insurance premiums as well as safety for our communities. Seven people out of three communities can't do it all. We need your help. Meetings have been advertised before, but no one comes. We know everyone is busy, but we feel that this is an important and worthwhile effort.
