In spite of the final score, the Wolverettes gave the Lady Eagles all they wanted and then some.

In fact, from the 1:34 point of the third, to the 5:07 mark of the fourth, the Wolverettes outscored McNeil 17-0, showing they know how to get a run going and shut down a potent offense.

McNeil scored 100 against Prescott in their first meeting of the year.

The Lady Eagles opened strong, winning the tip and scoring. McNeil ran out to a 22-6 lead in the first, putting Prescott in a catch up situation.

McNeil allowed the Wolverettes one shot during the first quarter, then looked to run at every opportunity.

The Lady Eagles also caused Prescott problems by utilizing a full court press and forcing turnovers early on.

The Wolverettes, though, didn't roll over and play dead. Instead the team pulled together and fought back as best they could.

Prescott's defense improved in the second as McNeil was held to 14 points in the period. Halftime arrived with the score 36-14.

The Lady Eagles again scored first to open play in the second half, and pushed their lead to 52-18 before the Wolverettes rallied and shut McNeil down.

Period three ended with the score 52-25.

The Wolverettes started the fourth by stealing the ball and scoring as their run continued.

Sophia Dunn was all over the court for Prescott offensively and defensively, igniting the rest of the team.

Prescott cut the score to 52-35 before McNeil got on track.

Dunn led the Wolverettes with 17 points.

Effie Burrell was the game's leading scorer with 26. Erica Ewell added 13, while Sidra Porchia scored10.

Prescott hit one of four free throws, while McNeil was five of 13 from the line.

FOUNTAIN LAKE 36

The Wolverettes played their first overtime game of the season against Fountain Lake Thursday, Jan. 25, but managed to pull out an important 38-36 win.

There was little scoring early on, with the Lady Cobras posting a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.

Halftime arrived with Fountain Lake holding on to a 17-12 advantage.

The Wolverettes rallied in the third, tying the game at 23-23.

Both teams scored eight in the fourth, sending the game into overtime with the score knotted at 31-31.

In the fifth period, the Wolverettes showed they wanted the win more than Fountain Lake did.

Lateisha Heard scored 18 to lead all scorers in the game. Dunn contributed 10 for Prescott.

Maggan Reynolds had 10 for the Lady Cobras.

Free throws were a problem for Prescott as the Wolverettes connected on only 18 of 41, while Fountain Lake hit 10 of 14 from the line.

DEQUEEN 48

Few wins for Prescott are sweeter than those against De Queen.

In this contest, the Wolverettes played like the Wolverettes of old, hustling after every ball, battling for each rebound and punishing opponents for being where they had no business.

The Lady Leopards, though, jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first before Prescott responded with a 14-1 run to end the period with the score 14-8.

De Queen never led in the game again.

Both squads had walking problems in the second period, keeping either offense from doing much of anything.

But, the Wolverettes made sure they were in De Queen players' faces when they had the ball and gave up nothing without a fight.

Halftime arrived with Prescott holding a 26-19 lead.

The Wolverettes got off to slow starts at the beginning of each quarter in the game. By the third period, this proved to be a problem as De Queen was able to battle back and make the game closer than it should have been. The Wolverettes fought for each and every point in the third, a quarter they were outscored 12-7. Until the third, Prescott had put on a brief run to keep De Queen at bay. This didn't happen in the third, and the Lady Leopards cut the lead to 33-31.

The fourth was much the same as the third, only with more scoring.

Both squads had turnover and foul problems, extending the game to more than two hours long.

However, it proved to be more than worth if for the fans as the two teams swapped baskets, each trying to put the other away.

As the clock ran down, a De Queen player tried to get a shot off. While the shot was good, the officials waived it off saying it came after the buzzer sounded ending the game. Otherwise, the Lady Leopards would have stolen the game 5049.

Dunn and Heard paced Prescott with 13 each.

Shana Smith led De Queen with 14, while Sarabeth Bailey scored 13.

Prescott hit 15 of 25 free throws, while De Queen connected on 19 of 27 from the line.

In the third, they extended their lead to 22-12, and allowed the Lady Cobras only two points in the final six minutes.

Katie McCauley led Prescott with nine.

Terrea Beene paced Fountain Lake with six.

Prescott hit five of seven from the line, with the Lady Cobras two for two.

CUBETTES 37

DE QUEEN 42

The Cubettes played De Queen close, but were never able to get over the hump. The Lady Leopards posted a 42-37 win.
