Porter Picked As Top TwirlerPublished Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneKara Porter, daughter of Mark and Sandra Porter, has been selected as a feature twirler for the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in Conway for the 1999-2000 school year. Porter was one of five candidates for feature twirler with three being selected. Each candidate had to prepare two routines for the tryout, which was held Saturday, April 24. She is a senior at Prescott High School and will be attending UCA in the fall, majoring in speech pathology. Porter has been a feature twirler in the PHS band for three years. She has been under the twirling instruction of Carie Maroon. In addition to her involvement in band, Porter has been active in Wolf Trail, is an honor graduate, Kiwanis honor student, and National Honor Society, and she has participated in FBLA, Key Club and Spanish Club.
