Classy Moments from Cabe Middle SchoolPublished Wednesday, January 31, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesIt is very evident that some kind of bug' has entered our school. We are having a large number of absentees each day. This is not only students, but staff and faculty as well. We are hoping that the bug leaves this place soon. So many students are coughing so much during the day; several go home after coming to school, as they start feeling bad, and some are sent home with fever. We are seriously hoping that next week will be a healthier one for us. Good news, we heard that Mrs. Wimberly was doing well after her surgery. Just want her to know that she is missed. Mrs. Escalante is substituting for Mrs. Wimberly during her absence. Mrs. Smithey and Mrs. Clingan attended a workshop on Smart Step, provided by Dawson Cooperative a busy day with lots of new things to put into effect during the year. Mrs. Blanton and Mrs. Whitlock attended a workshop in Little Rock concerning language arts and math. Various new ideas were presented. The Junior High cheerleaders performed at Henderson State University during the half time of the Reddies basketball game Jan. 25. Stephanie Wood, Dax Cox, Paige Harrell and Dusti McCormick, four HSU cheerleaders, created and taught our squad the routine that won Gurdon cheerleaders first place at the regional competition in El Dorado. They performed the winning routine. They also performed with the Henderson cheerleaders. Jill Plyler performed some stunts with the HSU cheerleaders. Such a wonderful experience for our squad, but such a special treat for the audience. Several fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who met the requirement in reading had a great time Friday, as they enjoyed a time at the skating rink in Arkadelphia. Mrs. Morehead, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. McClure, Mrs. Downey and Mrs. Anderson accompanied the students. Stories were being told of how many times certain people fell down while skating, or should say suppose to have been skating. Now, for the rest of the story.' It seems that Mrs. McClure is the only one who was able to stay up on the skates, not falling one time. Great job. (Can you imagine what those students thought when they saw the other teachers falling down?) Correction, or addition, it must be said that Mrs. Downey did not skate, therefore, she did not fall. They all enjoyed sack lunches when they returned to the school. As we strive to improve and to reach our goals we are constantly making those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School.
