Nell Weaver Storey Tipton

McLAUGHLIN'S MORTUARY of FORT WALTON BEACH, FL
Published Wednesday, January 24, 2001 in the Nevada County Picayune

Nell Weaver Storey Tipton, a former Little Rock resident, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2001, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Nell was born November 30, 1918, in Prescott, the daughter of Edna and Espy Weaver. She was raised as she liked to say "above the jail house" in Prescott with her brother, Field, and sisters, Virginia, Molly and Geeva. Her father, Espy Weaver, was the sheriff and later State Representative of Nevada County. Edna, Espy, Virginia and Field preceded her in death. Nell grew up in the Presbyterian Church in Prescott and as a resident of Little Rock was a member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church.

In 1939 Nell married O.H. Bud' Storey Jr., and they had three children, Susan Storey Hayes, O.H. Bud' Storey III and Jeanne Storey Olson. O.H. Bud' Storey Jr. died in 1964, when the family was living in New Jersey.

Widowed, Nell returned to her home state of Arkansas with her daughter Jeanne, age 6. Wanting to meet people and make new friends, Nell went to work for Welcome Wagon, an organization that welcomed newcomers to Little Rock. It was through Welcome Wagon that she made many wonderful friends. Her charming personality and her interest in politics made her a natural for campaigning, which she did with zeal on behalf of Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller. She was very active in the Democrats for Rockefeller movements in the mid-60's, traveling all parts of the state, and later worked for Gov. Rockefeller at his public relations office. From there she received her real estate license and worked for McKay, becoming the first resident sales manager of Cambridge Place.

Nell lived and worked at Cambridge Place for many years. She later married Col. Richard Tipton and moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She and Col. Tipton were married for 21 very happy years. Her daughter, Susan Storey Hayes, predeceased her in death on January 18, 2000.

Nell is survived by her husband, Dick Tipton of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., her son and his wife, Bud and Mary Storey of Little Rock; her daughter and her husband, Jeanne and Gary Olson of Springdale; a stepson, Rick Tipton, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Tipton Bray of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michelle Hays of Atlanta, Ga., Robin Hayes Keef of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Christopher Hayes of Birmingham, Ala., Carol Storey Rogers and Chris Storey of Little Rock; and Darian and Kalen Bray of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.; three great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Kelsey Keef of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Ashton Rogers of Little Rock; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Tuesday January 23, at McLaughlin's Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., with a graveside services that will be on Thursday, January 25 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery outside of Prescott at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Robin Nygaard of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 10411 West Markham St., Little Rock, or to the charity of your choice.
