Wolverettes Defeat Ashdown At Home

Prescott's Wolverettes have been steadily improving as the season continues, but still have problems scoring.

In the Southern Arkansas University Tournament, the Wolverettes fell 41-30 to Wickes.

The Lady Warriors led 10-9 at the end of one and were up 23-13 at the half. Prescott fought back in the third, cutting the lead to 25-23.

The Wolverettes were five of 10 from the line, while Wickes hit 16 of 23.

Sophia Dunn led the way for Prescott with 15.

Against Ashdown, the Wolverettes did a better job scoring, but fell 60-51.

The Lady Panthers opened with a 12-9 lead and were up 33-23 at halftime. Ashdown stretched its led to 46-35 by the end of the third.

The Wolverettes nailed 16 of 35 free throws, while the Lady Panthers hit eight of 20.

Dunn again led the way, while Latieshia Heard and Brandy Jackson had 10 each.

Against the Lady Panthers of Fouke, the Wolverettes fared better, but fell 64-58.

The teams were deadlocked at 13-13 at the end of one, with Fouke taking the lead, 30-25, at the half. The Lady Panthers extended this to 48-34 by the end of the third, with Prescott fighting back in the fourth.

The Wolverettes shot 15 of 27 from the line, with Fouke hitting 13 of 30.

Jackson had the hot hand for Prescott with 24 points. Dunn added 16.

Tera Duree led Fouke with 27, while Holly Smith scored 20.

Arkansas High's Lady Razorbacks pounded Prescott 44-19 in the Nashville tourney.

The Lady Hogs led 17-10, 28-15 and 31-17, respectively.

Prescott was two of eight at the line, while AHS hit eight of 18.

Jackson led the team with 11.

This was followed by a 55-39 loss to arch-rival Gurdon to open the new year.

The Lady Devils were hot early as they led 28-11 at the end of one, only to see Prescott fight back to cut it to 34-24 at the half. Gurdon went up 44-31 at the end of three.

Prescott shot 50 percent at the line, hitting nine of 18, while Gurdon was seven of 16.

Jackson again paced the team with 14, while Dunn added 12.

Sonia Beasley led Gurdon with 18. Tonya Russey had 14 and Vanesha Young had 11.

From there, Prescott had to tangle with one of the top ranked AAA teams in the state  Bismarck.

The Wolverettes fell 63-31 in this outing.

The Lady Lions went up 25-4 in the opening period, and led 39-14 at the break. By the end of three, the score was 57-21.

Prescott was three of 12 from the line, while Bismarck hit 16 of 31.

Jaynee Hurd and Dunn scored eight each for Prescott.

Lindsey Dyer led Bismarck with 14, while Katrina Allen added 11.

The Wolverettes followed this with a solid outing against Nevada, but succumbed 39-29.

The Lady Blue Jays led 12-6 after one and were up 24-8 at halftime. Prescott responded well in the third, cutting the lead to 27-21.

Prescott was 14 of 35 from the line, while Nevada was four of 27 in free throw attempts.

Dunn led the Wolverettes with 10.

The Wolverettes won their second meeting with Ashdown, but barely, at 58-57.

In this game, Prescott was the leader all the way. The Wolverettes led 13-11 after one, and 28-21 at the half. Ashdown cut the lead to four buy the end of three, 42-38, with the Wolverettes hanging on for the one-point victory.

Free throws made the difference in this one as Prescott made 11 of 26 and the Lady Panthers made nine of 26.

Dunn led the way with 16, while Heard netted 15. LaSheena Gillard stepped up with 12.
