NHS Defeats Prescott In Basketball Shoot-Out

Prescott's Curley Wolves have been playing around .500 basketball since the ice storms hit the area.

The Wolves dispatched Ashdown's Panthers 84-74, with four members of the team scoring in double figures.

In fact, Prescott didn't trail at the end of any period in the game. The Wolves led 16-10 at the end of one, and were up 36-25 at halftime.

The end of three showed Prescott leading 58-49.

Prescott hit 23 of 32 free throws, while the Panthers netted 22 of 29 from the charity stripe.

Justin Tidwell led all scorers with 26 on the night, while Kevin Fulks added 15. Brandon Young contributed 14, with Decolon Prater netting 11.

DeQuinius Rhone led Ashdown with 23. Bryan Purtle had 10 and Guy Fricks scored 10.

However, in the game before this one, the Wolves fell to Nevada in a heart-breaking 48-47 loss.

The Blue Jays led throughout and had to withstand a late Prescott rush to preserve the win.

The Jays were up 17-10 in the first, and led 23-18 when the buzzer sounded at the half. Nevada's lead was 37-32 at the end of three.

This was a game of few fouls by Nevada as Prescott hit only one of three from the line. The Jays shot 16 free throws, hitting nine.

Young led the way with 16, while Cory Yarbrough scored 12. Tidwell added 11.

Prior to the Nevada game, the Wolves posted an important conference win, 68-52 against Bismarck.

Once again, Prescott opened well, and maintained the lead throughout the game.

The Wolves were up 18-15 at the end of one, stretching this to a 36-27 lead at the break. Prescott led 43-35 at the end of three.

The Wolves shot decently from the line, hitting 17 of 30, while the Lions netted seven of nine.

Prater stepped up to lead the team with 21, while Fulks scored 14. Tidwell added 13, with Yarbrough scoring 10.

Prescott, though, didn't do as well against Gurdon the second time as the Devils posted a 79-78 win in Gurdon to start the new year off wrong for the Wolves.

This was a back and forth game, with neither squad able to maintain a consistent lead.

Gurdon led 17-14 after one, with Prescott taking control in the second quarter and leading 42-39 at the half.

Gurdon responded in the third by going up 58-57, and hanging on for the win in the final eight minutes.

Both teams shot 32 free throws on the night. Prescott converted 16, while Gurdon hit 13.

Tidwell scored 22 for the Wolves, with Joseph Stewart adding 19. Young had 14, with Fulks scoring 10.

Norris Glenn led Gurdon's attack with 28 points, while Dorsey Kelly scored 16.

The Wolves dropped a game in the Nashville tourney, 69-63 to Saratoga.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Wolves early and stayed there. Saratoga led 22-17 after one and 39-26 at the half. The situation didn't improve for the Wolves in the third as the Dogs were up 55-43.

Young was the leading scorer with 18, with Fulks right behind with 17. Prater added 14.

Prescott hit eight of 17 free throws, while Saratoga nailed nine of 14.

The Wolves have been able to win when necessary, meaning conference games, as they beat the Fouke Panthers 60-41 shortly before the Christmas break.

Prescott got off to the lead early, 18-8 in the first, and held on. Halftime arrived with the Wolves up 26-16, and they led 42-17 at the end of three.

Tidwell stepped up to lead the team this time with 18. Fulks was next with 14, while Young scored 10.

Brandon Attaway led Fouke with 17.

Prescott hit 16 of 22 free throws, while Fouke was seven of 16.

In the game against Smackover, it was a tale of two halves. Prescott won the first half, but lost the second half, and the game, 73-66.

Prescott opened with a 19-14 lead over the Buckaroos in the first quarter, and was up 36-31 by halftimeHowever, Smackover rallied in the third to cut Prescott's lead to one at 52-51, and outscored the Wolves 22-14 in the final eight minutes.

Prescott hit 16 of 17 from the line, while the Bucks netted six of nine.

Tidwell led the way with 24 points, while Fulks was next with 19. Young scored 11 in this outing.

In their first meeting of the year, the Wolves handed Ashdown a 65-59 loss, having to come from behind to win the game.

The Panthers, playing at home, were up 13-10 at the end of one and led 27-25 at halftime. The Panthers pushed their lead to five, 44-39 by the end of the third, only to see the Wolves explode in the fourth period.

Prescott hit 11 of 25 from the line, while Ashdown connected on 13 of 21.

Fulks led the way with 17, while Tidwell added 14. Yarbrough scored 13, with Stewart adding 10.
