Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, January 24, 2001 in the Gurdon Times

We were dreading the thought of more snow, but so glad when we dismissed Friday that there was not a snow flake to be seen. Of course, we are hearing so much talk about having to make up the days we missed due to the ice storm. It seems as though we will be in school until June 2 unless the State Legislature grants approval to the schools that will not require make up days.

We were scheduled to be out of school Feb. 19 and April 13, but we will use those days to make up two of the days we missed. May 26 and 28 we will not conduct classes, but Tuesday, May 26, through Saturday, June 2, we will have school. If, however, the legislature does grant the days to be excused, we will let you know as soon as we know.

Congratulations to the junior high cheerleaders as they brought home the first place trophy for the AA Division in the Southern Regional Cheerleader Competition held in El Dorado. A great big thanks goes to more than 30 fans who attended the competition. The encouragement and support for the cheerleaders is certainly appreciated.

Members of the squad are Jill Plyler, captain, Taylor Pace, co-captain, Takia Williams, Blair Griffin, Haley Griffin, Katie Barbaree, Haleigh McDaniel, Callie King and Destiny Talley. Mrs. Bullard is the sponsor. She works hard, long hours to make sure that each squad member is ready to perform. Teamwork. You bet. Sponsor, team, parents and fans.

Report cards were sent home Thursday. Parents do not have to sign and return them. If there are any questions just call the school and arrangements will be made for conferences with the necessary teachers.

Students found it hard to believe that half of the school year is over. Some are going to need to work a little harder the second half, and after seeing their semester averages, they seem to understand and agree.

Mr. Alexander, Mrs. Hogue and outside duty teachers are enjoying the two-way radios recently purchased with a grant from the Cone Foundation. This makes it much easier and faster to report an accident and for other matters that attention is needed instead of having to send a note by a student to the main building.

We appreciate your support and concern for CMS as we are making those Classy Moments.
