News That Matters To GurdonPublished Wednesday, January 24, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesThe Beirne Rural Fire Department will be holding a chili supper at the fire department on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Dinner plates will cost $4.50 per plate. Scott and Heather Horne of Gurdon are pleased to announce the arrival of their son, Kristopher Scott, born on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000. Kristopher weighed eight pounds and four ounces. His grandparents are Julia and Jeff McNair of Gurdon, Tommy and Margie Johnson of Prescott, and Freddie and Sharon Horne of Gurdon. His great grandparents are Gerald and Julia King of Gurdon and Curtis and Mary Johnson of Prescott. Great-great grandmother is Elizabeth Murrah of Sutton. Safe food handling for young children will be the topic of the child care provider training offered by the Clark County Extension Service. The two-hour session will be held Thursday, January 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Extension Homemakers kitchen at the Clark County Fairgrounds, one mile south of Arkadelphia on Highway 67. There will be a birthday celebration in honor of Lela Brewer's 95th birthday Saturday, January 27, from 2:00 till 4:00 p.m. in the activity building of Baring Cross Baptist Church at 1511 Walnut in Arkadelphia. Her actual birthday was January 20. Mrs. Brewer was a long time resident of Arkadelphia before moving to Denton, Texas, where she now lives with her daughter, Patsy Caldwell. It is requested that no gifts be taken, but cards or notes of remembrances would be appreciated. Curtis Assembly of God Church, Central Road, will be holding a revival beginning Sunday, Jan. 21, with morning services at 10:00 a.m. and evening services at 6:00 p.m. During the week services will be held at 7:00 each night through January 26. The Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club meets every second Thursday of each month at the Gurdon Municipal building beginning at 10:00 a.m. Any interested person is welcome to attend. The city of Gurdon reminds residents the storm sirens are tested every Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Sirens are not tested during inclement weather. Gurdon Masonic Lodge 187 meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. All members are urged to attend. Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon. For more information, phone 353-4698.
