Fans got their money's worth when Gurdon's senior girls locked up with Lewisville's Lady Red Devils.

However, Gurdon wound up on the short end of a 64-59 score.

Lewisville took an early lead as Gurdon was mainly mining iron on offense. The Lady Red Devils led 18-11 at the end of one before Gurdon's Lady Devils found their rhythm.

Earlier in the season, Lewisville handed a tough Blevins Lady Hornet team one of its two losses on the season.

The Lady Red Devils relied heavily on the full court press to keep Gurdon in check.

However, in the second quarter, Gurdon's girls began clawing their way back into the game.

Bodies were flying all over the court as both teams dove for loose balls.

Gurdon, though, was in the bonus from the 7:06 point of the period, and went to the line after every Lewisville foul. This helped get the Lady Devils close and keep them there.

Halftime arrived with the score 31-30 in Lewisville's favor, and the outcome very much in doubt.

Both teams scored 12 points in the third period, with Gurdon becoming more assertive on both sides of the ball.

The Lady Devils came out hot early and built a 40-33 lead before Lewisville knew what hit them.

The full court press by the Lady Red Devils forced turnovers which were turned into points late, thereby allowing Lewisville to regain the lead at 43-42.

In the final period, the two teams fought toe-to-toe. Lewisville built a 51-45 lead, only to see Gurdon cut it to 51-50 with 4:02 left in the game.

Lewisville again pulled away, only to see Gurdon respond and rally to make it 55-54, before the Lady Devils took the lead at 56-55.

Gurdon's press rattled the Lady Red Devils, forcing them to make mistakes.

However, with 1:05 left, Lewisville led 59-56. From there, fouls were the determining factor as the aggressiveness by both squads sent one another to the line.

The problem was Lewisville did a better job and went to the line more often than Gurdon.

The Lady Devils were 13 of 23 from the stripe, while Lewisville hit eight of 19, but most of those came late in the game.

Tonya Russey led Gurdon with 23 points. Sonia Beasley and Vanesha Young contributed 15 each.
