Supplemental Security Income pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible call 1-800-772-1213. To any woman who would like to get together with another woman to pray may get in touch with the local area contact person of Moms in Touch, Beth Ward, at 870-887-6376. For the past three years the local schools have been covered in prayer by a group of moms who meet on Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church to pray for one hour. Private pesticide applicator's training will be held Thursday, February 8. This is a change from the previously announced February 6th date. The training session will take place at the Nevada County Cooperative Extension Service office in Prescott at 6:30 p.m. Call the Extension office at 887-2818 if you have any questions concerning this training. Dialogue, a cancer support group, meets 5:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of each month in the W. Temple Webber Cancer Center, Christus St. Michael Health System, 2600 St. Michael Drive in Texarkana. Wayland and Suzanne Schobey of Prescott are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Alexis Blaine, born Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Alexis weighed six pounds and eleven ounces and she was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Dennis and Terry Neal of Dallas, Texas, and Judith Kay Schobey of Stamps. Big sister, Kaylynn Nichole Schobey, and big brother, Madison Blake, welcomed her home. Karlie and Thomas Buckley of Delight are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Hopie Nell Buckley, born Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia. Hopie weighed seven pounds and one ounce and was 20 inches long. Grandparents are Jerry and Cathy Cox of Murfreesboro, Maggie Buckley of Delight and John Wastian of Turlock, Calif. Thomas Buckley Jr. and Saxton Cox of Delight are her brothers and Brandy Buckley of Galax, Va., is her sister. Southwest Arkansas Development Council is now taking applications for the winter home energy assistance program. Applications will be taken Tuesday through Thursday from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. at 304 East Vine St. Call 887-5171 for an appointment. Non-food stamp households: When you go to make application you should take with you proof of household income and a recent stub from your heating bill. Eva and Jason Webb of Fairbanks, Alaska, are proud to announce the birth of their first child, a son, James Harris. James tipped the scales at 7 pounds and 3 ounces and was 21= inches long.
