Red Springs EHCPublished Wednesday, January 17, 2001 in the Gurdon TimesPut Some Pep in Your Step' was the program given by Sybil Harris Thursday, Jan. 11, to the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club at the Gurdon Municipal building. Obesity and high blood pressure are among the leading risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Walking is one of the easiest ways to exercise, and it offers protection against these two major killers. Why walk? It gives you more energy, makes you feel good about yourself, helps you to relax and relieves stress, it helps you sleep better, tones the muscles and helps control your appetite. Some things you might not think of as exercise can burn extra calories are house work, gardening, shopping, sightseeing, dancing, playing with the children or grandchildren. Tootsie Dempsey presided over the business session. Seventeen members answered roll call with what they do for exercise. Betty Cook gave an inspirational reading, One Day at a Time.' The club will be sponsoring the program Reshape Yourself' as one of its community projects. For more information contact Tootsie Dempsey at 353-2684. A Christmas food basket and three fruit baskets were given to community senior families. A memorial gift was given to the Decipher Cemetery in memory of member Maggie Sue Curry. Diabetic education classes, sponsored by Allcare Pharmacy and Clark County Extension services, meets each second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at the EHC kitchen at the Clark County Fairgrounds. They are free to the public. The Feb. 8 program will be on kidney disease. Georgia Schee gave the blessing on the food. Betty Cook and Robinette Cruise were hostesses.
